Seven ways to make the most of your mountain biking experience at CBMR

Posted on June 2, 2025

Heading to CBMR for some trail time this summer and hoping to make the most of your riding? We've got you covered! From lift-powered adventures to scenic sunset outings and family fun for all ages, here are seven things you can do to create a lifetime of memories while exploring CBMR’s trail system this summer.

Evolution Bike Park in Crested Butte, CO.

1. Experience the extremes

CBMR has become a mecca for skiers and riders looking to test their skill on expert winter terrain, but most guests don’t know the resort offers an equally adventurous experience when it comes to mountain biking during the summer months. The resort’s double-black trails filled with roots, rocks, man-made features, and gravity-defying steepness are enough to make even the most experienced bikers think twice before dropping and are a testament to the resort’s reputation as being a place where even the most skilled athletes can push their limits.

2. Stick around for Twilight

Every Wednesday and Friday from June 25-August 15, CBMR’s Red Lady Express lift and bike park will remain open until 7 p.m., three hours later than the standard closing time. Whether you're a local looking to squeeze in post-work laps or a visitor who can’t get enough downhill action, CBMR’s Twilight Hours offer the perfect way to extend your ride. With golden hour views, discounted lift tickets, live music on Wednesdays, and cooler evening temps, Twilights at CBMR might just become your new favorite summer tradition.

3. Ride from the resort to town

If you really want to earn your après, you can get in a few extra miles by connecting resort trails all the way to town! Whether you choose to cruise down the rec path or stick to singletrack trails like Happy Hour and Tony’s, you can rest assured your town trip will be more fun (and sustainable!) than taking a personal vehicle or using public transportation.

4. Get your vert in

If you’re trying to get in shape to conquer trails outside resort boundaries where there are notably fewer lifts, you need look no further than CBMR’s multi-use* trails to get your uphill training in. A great option for those who want to experience CBMR’s incredible biking terrain but don’t have a pass, these trails provide access to CBMR’s downhill-only zones so you can experience the same thrills as a passholder.

*These trails are also open to hikers and trail runners, so please ride with care!

5. Find your flow at the pump track

For folks newer to mountain biking or anyone looking to hone their skills, the CBMR pump track located just steps away from the base area is a fun way to improve balance, coordination and bike handling. An ideal option for kids starting out on strider bikes as well as experienced riders hoping to get in a solid warm up before conquering more challenging trails, the pump track is a laid back, accessible option to become a stronger, more confident rider, no matter your starting point.

6. Help your child learn to love the ride

Hoping mountain biking in CB will turn into a family tradition? CBMR’s Mini Riders program is designed to help young riders build a strong foundation of skills while prioritizing fun and safety. Coached by expert bikers with a knack for sharing stoke, kids enrolled in this program will walk away with basic bike skills, new friends, and ideally, a love for biking that extends far beyond their time at the resort!

If your kid is already a certifiable shredder, Crested Butte Junior Bike Week, hosted from June 25-29, is a great option to help them improve their riding through both competitive and non-competitive events and programming. Open to kids ages 2-18, Junior Bike Week strives to be the biggest family-friendly bike party on the planet, and encourages kids to push their limits on trails while making new friends and getting out into Crested Butte's incredible mountain wilderness. Registration information can be viewed here.

7. Compete in the summer race series

If you’re looking for an opportunity to let your competitive side shine through, CBMR’s summer race series, sponsored by Fox Racing, is a high-adrenaline way to test your speed and skill against other riders on some of the resort’s most challenging trails. With both cross country and downhill events, the race series runs from July 17-August 15 and even includes prizes for top competitors. Whether you’re racing your friends or the clock, you can count on these races keeping the energy – and your heart rate – high.
