Mountain Sports Team

CBMST development programs nurture previously established fundamental technique by taking their personal skill set to a higher level in alpine racing, snowboarding, freeride, and telemark skiing. Development programs introduce athletes to tactical and technical approaches while taking advantage of all the terrain the mountain has to offer.

The primary goal for the Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team (CBMST) is to develop well rounded athletes with a lifelong passion for snow sports, while learning the tools and skills to have fun and be successful at the highest levels of competition. With this in mind, we have created a developmental pipeline for our participants. This approach aids in creating an environment that allows coaches to focus on athletes’ skill level in a similar age range. They move through a system that teaches technical skills in skiing/riding and progresses towards tactical skills within their specific discipline. We will positively influence their skiing outcomes and provide them with the appropriate opportunities to realize their dreams.

If your child is new to skiing or riding or not interested in competing we strongly recommend the Cruisers or Mountain Adventures programs offered by our Ski & Ride School. The Cruisers program serves as the start of our developmental pipeline. For more information on Cruisers click here.

The Mountain Adventures program is designed for young skiers and riders (ages 8 - 17), ability levels 5 - 8 (Intermediate to Advanced). Mountain Adventures will build the skills of each individual through exploration of the entire mountain and is an integral part of our development program. Junior Development Team

Junior Development Team
The Junior Development Team is designed to introduce kids ages 7-10 to the Mountain Sports Team. Many participants graduate to this program after a few years with the local Cruisers program offered by the Ski and Ride School. Program participation introduces them to the different aspects and avenues of their sport, such as racing, park  and big mountain. Fundamental skills are developed through thorough progressions and then applied on different terrain preparing them for competition opportunities in Alpine Skiing, Telemarking and Snowboarding at the Competition Development age detailed below.
