Painter Boy and West Wall Lifts Scheduled to Open on Saturday, Dec. 8

MT. CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. – Dec. 7, 2018 – Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) continues to open additional terrain as the holiday season approaches, including the Painter Boy and West Wall lifts and terrain in those areas.

Saturday’s terrain openings expand CBMR’s skiable terrain to 431 acres across 62 trails accessible by eight lifts. Notably, 94 percent of the resort’s beginner terrain will be open for the season beginning on Dec. 8.

Advanced skiers and riders can enjoy the excellent snow coverage and soft conditions on CBMR’s front-side advanced trails Jokerville, Twister and Crystal. Thanks to recent snowfall and deep season-to-date snowfall totals, CBMR is set to open advanced trails Lower International, Championship and Sylvanite on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Beginning Saturday, Dec. 8, skiers and snowboarders will have access to beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain accessible via the following chairlifts at Crested Butte Mountain Resort:

  • Red Lady Express
  • Paradise Express
  • Silver Queen Express
  • West Wall Lift
  • Painter Boy Lift
  • Peachtree Lift
  • Aspen Conveyor
  • Pine Conveyor
  • Spruce Conveyor

All guests are reminded that they must observe all posted signs, closures and slow zones, especially during the early season. Closed trails may contain hazards due to early season snow coverage. Accessing closed terrain is a violation of the Colorado Ski Safety Act and will result in the loss of skiing privileges and could involve prosecution and a fine.

Located at the top of the Painter Boy Lift, the Umbrella Bar at Ten Peaks will open for the 2018-19 winter season on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018.

Santa Ski and Crawl – Dec. 15

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is hosting the sixth annual Santa Ski and Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, in hopes of breaking the resort’s current world record for the most number of skiers, boarders and bladers in full Santa costumes. Discounted lift tickets of $40 are available for guests dressed in full Santa suits including a top, bottom, hat and beard. Visit for more information and to purchase your Santa suit.

Winter Solstice Party at the Umbrella Bar – Dec. 21

CBMR is hosting the second annual Winter Solstice Party as a way to celebrate the start of the season and longer, sunnier days ahead.
