First and foremost, I am incredibly proud of our CBMR team members who worked tirelessly day in and day out to provide our guests with the best possible ski and ride experience all winter. Our mountain operations team worked through unseasonably warm temperatures during December. With the help of five new snowmaking air compressors and 3 new snowcats, we were still able to deliver a wonderful early season ski and ride package for our guests, and we were able to get East River, Gold Link and Prospect chairlifts running before Christmas.
When the snow finally started falling – a lot of it! -- our teams worked diligently to open new terrain. It felt like there was something new to ski and ride every day. In early February, we were able to open Teo 2 to the public for the second season in a row, and for just the fourth season in resort history. Opening wall to wall is an incredible feat that requires a lot of teamwork and communication. I am so proud of and grateful to our team members who made this happen.
Teo 2 is a favorite among expert skiers and riders, and this season it also served as a destination for one of the Natural Selection DUELs: a series of head-to-head competitions that determine who will advance to the final stages of the Natural Selection Tour. Jamie Anderson and Emma Crosby faced off on The Land of Many Names, a freeriding favorite in Teo 2 that contains many features. You can watch Anderson take home the DUEL win at CBMR on Red Bull TV. She went on to face off against other freeriding legends, taking third place in the Women’s category.
We also had a blast hosting the 50th Annual Al Johnson Memorial Telemark Race alongside our partners at the Crested Butte Avalanche Center. Participants dressed up in their best costumes and climbed 660 feet before descending 1,200 feet down our famed extremes -- all to pay tribute to the legendary 19th century mailman and to raise more than $10,000 for the Crested Butte Avalanche Center. Wow, what a great time everyone had!
I am also thrilled to have another dining option in the base area for both our visitors and Mt. Crested Butte community members to enjoy. The brand-new Highlife Crust & Crafts, located in the Grand Lodge Hotel across from the Transit Center, offers guests an opportunity to relax in the base area at the end – or beginning! - of their day. Highlife serves up a variety of pizzas and draft brews in addition to robust happy hour specials and to-go pizza slices from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In the morning, Highlife serves made-to-order breakfast options, including breakfast burritos, egg scramblers and fresh-baked cinnamon rolls. Guests can also call ahead at (970) 349-8030 and place a pickup order to take their breakfast, après or dinner to go.
Finally, this season was incredible because of all the guests who joined us on the mountain. It was wonderful to see the smiles on people’s faces as they made their turns. Whether you were here for a day, a week, or all season long, you helped to make this winter unforgettable. Thank you for experiencing the joy of skiing and riding with us. Make sure to purchase your 2024/25 Epic Pass so we can do it all again next season!
