Unique Ways to Enjoy the Crested Butte Music Festival

When you think of a music festival, often Coachella, Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo come to mind. Weekends filled with guitar smashing, fringed shirts and beer tents.

This is not the Crested Butte Music Festival.

The Crested Butte Music Festival is a sprawling, all-encompassing, musical extravaganza that lasts over a month (July 5 – August 11) and explores all genres and facets of music. Crowded festivals will be a distant memory, as you dive into unique compositions, soak up sounds in unforgettable locations and experience music like you never have before.

Check out these unique Crested Butte Music Festival events:

Hike or Bike to a Concert I July 10 and July 18:
Take a short scenic hike or bike to a special location (it’s a secret) for an unforgettable performance in the crisp mountain air. Make sure to pack your picnic blanket, gourmet spread and bottle of your favorite bubbly to enjoy while listening to the beautiful music!

  • July 10 features James Nyoraku Schlefer and Miwa Sasaki for lovely Zen music and Japanese contemporary compositions.
  • July 18 features Alex Komodore on classical guitar, Emily Ondracek-Peterson on the violin and members of the CBMF Symphony Orchestra for delightful classical guitar performance.

Additional details will be released to the ticket holders prior to the event.

Wild Chamber Music Party I July 22
This will be a night to remember! Emily Ondracek-Peterson (violinist and CBMF Co-Artistic Director) is joined by a host of talented friends, including Dave Devine (electric guitar), Jooeun Pak (piano) and Erik Christian Peterson (electronics). This evening of wild chamber music will include the Colorado premiere of Michael Bratt’s The Wild Party, which is based on Joseph Moncure March’s 1928 book-length narrative poem.

The evening will also see the world premiere of two works from Grammy-nominated composer Caleb Burhans and Erik Christian Peterson.

Sound Hearth I July 24 & August 6
Experience a thrilling evening of greatest hits from opera featuring four of this season's Crested Butte Opera Studio performers. Soprano Danielle Beckvermit, mezzo-soprano Stephany Pena, tenor Jared Esguerra and baritone Nicholas Ward, along with CBOS artistic director Lynn Baker, will serenade you with beloved arias and ensembles in a beautiful mountain home. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the nationally-renowned Crested Butte Opera Studio.

Mariachi on the Rocks: A Margarita March I August 11
Mariachi Sol de mi Tierra, one of the best mariachi bands in the country, returns to Crested Butte Music Festival to lead a parade — and you can join in on the fun! This interactive event also includes three stops where attendees can sample different margaritas.

Note: I already have my tickets to this one. A parade, mariachi band and margaritas down Elk Avenue? Done deal.
