Five Reasons to Wake Up for a CB Sunrise

Crested Butte Five Reasons to Wake Up for a CB Sunrise

Here are a few reasons, why you really should wake up for Crested Butte sunrises!

1. Nobody Else is Awake

The towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte plus the hills surrounding our communities are very sleepy, especially at sunrise. Being one of the only people around to witness the beauty of a Crested Butte sunrise will make you feel so special. Often times, the spectacular colors of the sunrise will only last five minutes, which will make you feel even luckier to have seen those reds, pinks and oranges that are unique to the early morning.

2. It’s So Quiet

There is a certain stillness to the morning that is difficult to find at other times of the day. Everything is still fresh and seems to be at peace after a long night of rest. The quiet trill of early birds is about the only sound to be heard. There are not too many words to describe it, it’s just peaceful and quiet.

3. Fresh Morning Smells

The fresh morning smells alone are enough to make you want to get up early. Even the smell of fresh rain in the morning is appealing. There is nothing better than those fresh early morning smells that have not yet been dimmed by traffic and the dryness that the day will bring.

4. You Never Know What You’re Going to Get

As Forrest Gump’s mama said, “Life is like a box of chocolates,” you really don’t know what you’re going to get… as far as sunrises go that is. There are some mornings that seem super cloudy or, on the contrary, not a cloud to be seen. You might think there won’t be too many dazzling colors, but 10 minutes later the sky is lit up with the most vibrant red and purples you have ever seen. While each sunrise may vary, each one is something special.

5. Those Colors, Though

A blog about why to wake up to watch the sunrise would be nothing if there wasn’t a section dedicated to the beautiful colors. As the sun begins to peak over the hills, the sky sometimes seems as though it’s on fire with bright reds and oranges piercing the sky. While other times, the sky looks as though it has gobs of cotton candy that you could almost reach out and grab. But, besides the colors coming from the east, there are also some magnificent colors as the sun crests, which begin to shine in the west. The alpenglow over the mountain ranges that surround Crested Butte are just as beautiful as the sunrises themselves. Sunrises in Crested Butte almost never disappoint as nature’s daily wonder lights up the beautiful valley that we are lucky to call home.
