Ski Patrol Extreme Terrain Update

The snow that Crested Butte recently received has certainly been a welcome sight! Amazing what a difference a foot of snow can make for skiing at the resort on our open trails. Mountain operations crews have been hard at work to keep the snow groomed, remove the snowmaking apparatuses  (BIG kudos to the snowmaking department for getting the mountain up and running. We are incredibly lucky to have the crew we do, as many resorts are not as fortunate to have the knowledge, skill and dedication that we have here at CBMR), open additional lifts, and drop ropes on new runs as conditions allow....

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve In Crested Butte

Words written by Mountain Athlete Ashley Bembenek

New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday. It is a chance to celebrate the passing year’s accomplishments and to create intentions and goals for the coming year.

I like to be up early and start the day with an excellent cup of coffee. My favorite coffee spot in town is Rumors, you can’t beat the combination of books and coffee. If breakfast is also on the agenda the Guild and Izzy’s are great choices. The Guild Café features local, homemade, and organic breakfast options alongside fresh-roasted coffee. Izzy’s is...

Top 5 Things I Love About Being New to CB

Crested Butte is a beautiful little town with a big personality and a lot of charm. I moved here looking for a change of pace from the east coast city lifestyle and that’s exactly what I got. There are a lot of things that I’ve already fallen in love with but here are my top 5!

  1. Living in the mountains

The mountains are at your doorstep here in Crested Butte. During the winter, there’s nothing better than rolling out of bed, throwing on your ski gear and heading to the lift in just minutes. During the summer, there are so many trails to...

Opening Terrain with CBMR Ski Patrol

The beginning of the winter season is an exciting time to be at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. As the temperatures drop and the snow stacks up, there is the inevitable question of when more terrain will open up.

New terrain openings are orchestrated by an integrated team of Mountain Operations and Ski Patrol. There are two primary factors that must be approved by these on-mountain teams before additional terrain becomes open for skiing and riding.

Safety is the most important factor that goes into opening new terrain. Natural terrain features,...

Crested Butte Activity Highlight: Sleigh Ride Dinners

Activity Highlight: Sleigh Ride Dinners

Sometimes the journey is the highlight to an exploration. Set the course for a romantic evening at Uley’s Cabin, a fine dining experience with a mountain adventure as the first course. Wednesday through Sunday evenings, guests meet at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square for departure: a snow-cat driven sleigh is your steed for the evening ride.

Cozy blankets await you on the sleigh, and as you chug up the mountain, with the snowy trees illuminated by alpenglow and the headlights of the snowcat, your adventure is reminiscent of being in a snow globe. Your destination is a warmly lit...
