New season is great time to learn new techniques & develop good habits

A new season is here and now is the time to build good technique and new habits! The first day on skis marks a new beginning. We want to start the season building new habits and this should start on the first day and the first run. This is a good lesson for all skiers and snowboarders.
So, start this new season with a commitment to improve your skiing and riding skills, it will lead to higher levels of performance, more stamina, ability to ski more terrain and you will have more fun.

Start the new season by reacquainting yourself with a few basic fundamentals. Here is a checklist:

1. Evaluate your stance and make adjustments that result in a tall relaxed posture. Your joints should be slightly flexed with the hips positioned over your feet.

2. Focus on your feet. Build a solid foundation from your feet up. When your movements originate from the feet, you learn to minimize those unnecessary upper body movements.

3. Find a relaxed and quiet position for your arms and hands, they should be quiet and comfortably in front of your body. Avoid letting the hands become involved in triggering the turns.

4. Start your turns by changing your EDGES first and then carving through the turn. Edge first, then turn.

5. Manage your speed in the early season. Practice control and good technique before cutting loose.

6. Take a lesson and learn how to improve your technique with good fundamentals. A good pro will provide you with relevant feedback and good images to emulate.

Good technique starts with a good tall stance - feet apart, joints flexed, arms in ready position

Profile view shows, joints flexed, hips over feet, arms in front.

First turns, start your turns by rolling your feet over on the new edges early or “high” in the turn.

Finish your turns in good balance. Allow your ankles to flex and absorb pressure at the bottom of the turn.

Make some turns and have fun skiing!
