Today, Crested Butte is a skier’s paradise. But
the town got its start in coal mining during the 1880s. At the Crested Butte
Mountain Heritage Museum, you’ll learn the story of the town’s transformation
from a wild west town to one of the last true ski towns in North America.
You’ll also get a glimpse into the origins of some of today’s wackiest
traditions, like Flauschink (you read that right… think polka and dancing). A
visit to the museum is a sure way to get a glimpse into Crested Butte’s past
and better understand its present.
