The Center for the Arts presents DVS (Dillon, Vidacovich, Singleton)

DVS Bio:

Dillon, Vidacovich , Singleton aka "DVS" is a New Orleans Based trio. Anchored by the legendary crescent city Rhythm team of Johnny Vidacovich and James Singleton, DVS explores the art of the trio with a depth that few groups today can lay claim. Johnny and James have played with the legends of the music world. Their joint resume includes Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly, Nat Adderly, Joe Henderson, Milt Jackson, Eddie Harris, Arnett Cobb, John Scofield, Mose Allison, Kenny Baron, Clarke Terry, Lightning Hopkins, James Booker, Harry Connick Jr, James Black, Ellis, Branford, Wynton and Jason Marsalis, Johnny Adams, Anders Osborne among others. They are also members of Astral Project, 3now4, The Trio (George Porter Jr.). Mike Dillon is the wildcard of this group. Having attended the University of North Texas, the percussionist was a member of the 1:00 Lab Band. He also has played percussion with Arnett Cobb, Brave Combo, Dave Liebman and heads up, Ten Hands and Shelly Carrol among others. Though classically trained on marimba, he never really had much interest in the vibraphone. One night while on tour with Dallas punk funk punk band Billy Goat, he fell In love with Thelonius Monk. At that moment he dedicated his life to the vibraphone and became on obsessed with Hampton, Jackson, Hutcherson and Tjader. In 2006 Dillon moved to New Orleans. Though on the road most of the year, he immediately started doing gigs with Johnny and James. The next level of his education commenced. The group grew out of Johnny's longstanding trio gig at the Maple Leaf. Though George Porter Jr. is the resident bass player with the trio, when George "can't make it," James would come in and this trio was born.DVS has performed regionally and at the Telluride Jazz Celebration.
