Q: I'm in Gunnison for the summer, is there anything happening on the mountain?
A: There are several mountain bike races this summer beginning June 28 & 29 with the Wildflower Rush. The PowerAde Pinnacle Summer Bike Series is back. For $10 you can compete for great prizes and at the end of the day free pizza and beer. The Pinnacle races will take place July 17 & 10, August 14 & 21 and September 4. From June 25 through September 1, summer hikers and bikers can get a lift to the network of trails on Mt. Crested Butte from the main base area chairlifts. The Silver Queen lift transports hikers to just below the summit at 11,400 feet. From there, sightseers can climb to the 12,162-foot Mt. Crested Butte peak, stop for a picnic or simply take in the spectacular views of the Elk Mountain Range. The Keystone lift transports hikers and mountain bikers up to the Mt. Crested Butte Activity Center tent and numerous trails mid-mountain. From rolling single-track to more advanced technical terrain, Crested Butte Mountain offers more than 15 miles of summer trails to entice bikers of all abilities and ages. Other activities available for those on foot include Frisbee golf; the Adaptive Sports Center's new challenge/ ropes course (call ahead for reservations (970) 349-5075), live music once a week, hiking or soaking in the panoramic views on the lift down. A: Many of our positions are seasonal and more jobs are available during the winter season. Jobs are posted in the Axtel Building at the base of the ski area and applications are available.
