You’ve seen snowcats out on the slopes, leaving perfect tracks of corduroy down the mountain’s groomed runs. Now you can learn what it’s like to drive one through our one-of-a-kind Snowcat Driving Experience.
Participants get “behind the wheel” of a Prinoth snowcat (you’ll quickly learn that things look a little different than they do in your car), and get hands on practice grooming snow. You will, of course, get all the fundamentals you need to stay safe and learn how the machine works before you start driving. But this is no watered down class based in theory and observation. You’ll learn from real groomers, who will share their insiders’ tips for a smooth ride and give you plenty of hands-on to practice time on the closed course.
The Snowcat Driving Experience is based on one-on-one instruction in a fully functional Prinoth 275 Snow Cat (the same cat used in Crested Butte’s grooming operations). Classes run twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday during the ski season. Reservations must be made ahead of time, and group bookings are available by request.
The experience is $229 and includes transportation from the Lodge at Mountaineer Square, some classroom time, and an hour of actual snow cat drive time. Family and friends are welcome to observe from our on-site tent (please mention at time of booking). Drivers must have a valid drivers’ license and be over 18 years old.
