It takes a lot of energy to run a ski resort. Here at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, we are committed to making investments in energy efficiency and reduced consumption:
In 2017-18 Winter Season we achieved the following:
- Reduced our electricity consumption by 2.5%
- Installed a beer tap system in the Paradise Warming House reducing 800 cases of bottled beer waste.
- Replaced old lighting with LED lighting throughout the resort including the Emmons’s Building, around the walkways and in the maintenance shops.
- Increased recycling by 38%
These energy savings have been achieved through multiple efforts.
Reduce Copy Paper Consumption by 30%
After achieving the first goal of reducing 15% by 2016 - CBMR has continued the commitment to further paper reduction of 30% in 2018-19. The focus is on evaluating processes and systems that can be updated in order to reduce paper usage.
Decrease Snowmaking Energy Consumption by at least 60% during the 2018-19 Winter Season.
Mountain Operations is pleased to announce the investment in 4 new snowmaking guns and 10 new snowmaking heads that is anticipated to reduce energy consumption by 60 - 75%.
Stone Paper Trail Maps
We are utilizing stone paper for the summer trail maps for the second year! Stone paper requires no trees or water. Stone paper manufacturing produces zero air or water pollution and requires no harmful acids, dyes or bleaches. For more information visit stonepaperinfo.com
Please recycle or reuse your trail map. When you are done using your map, let somebody else use it. Look for our handy recycling bins located at the base area.

CBMR provides recycling bins throughout the base area. Make sure to take a moment and recycle plastic, aluminum and glass. Help us reach our recycling goals!
Make sure to discard trash in a proper trash receptacle. This includes cigarette butts, wrappers and receipts. Help us keep Crested Butte clean!
