Things to Do

A colorful, brighter more adventurous you!

The sense of exploration continues off the mountain with some of the most diverse and distinctive bars, restaurants and nightlife found in any ski town.  From sushi to sandwiches and everything in between, the choices of great places to dine and variety of food types is amazing.  For a small town like this to have three locations for sushi, six great pizza places, and more than thirty bars is hard to believe.  There is also live music almost every night at places like the classic Eldo bar or the intimate Princess wine bar on Elk Avenue in downtown Crested Butte.

The shopping is also an adventurous undertaking with small specialty shops and galleries to explore, each one distinct in its offerings and style.  Your adventure begins the moment you arrive in Crested Butte and continues as you get to know the people and discover this special place that brings out the colorful, brighter more adventurous you.  Here are a few events and activities you won't want to miss this summer!

Zipline Tours:
Last summer, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) added a Zipline Tour to its on-mountain amenities. The guided tour includes five ziplines, and a series of suspension bridges. The Crested Butte Zipline Tour is available during the summer, fall and winter seasons. So far, the Crested Butte Zipline Tour has been a resounding hit with resort guests, local residents and employees. Scream your loudest, hoot like a monkey and do your best “superman dive” as you zip through the trees on this 2 hour expedition. Learn More About Zipline Tours»

Evolution Bike Park:
The Evolution Bike Park has been built over the last few years and continues to grow with new trails and new features every year. Now boasting over 25 miles and 16 trails from beginner to expert levels, the bike park is perfect for families wanting to ride together, an intermediate wanting to improve their skills in a lesson or the expert downhill mountain biker looking for fast speeds and jumps. This summer there are plans to build a Skills Zone in the base area for beginners to learn balance and bike control, as well as an intermediate gravity trail for riders progressing their downhill abilities.

Sponsored by Specialized, guests can demo a range of Specialized bikes at the Crested Butte Rental and Demo Center and also sign up for bike lessons from the professional bike park staff. The Evolution Bike Park and the overall bike program is unlike many others. It is designed to progress any level of rider; inspiring people to get out on their bikes, enjoy the trails and learn a life-long sport. Learn More About the Evolution Bike Park »

Adventure Park:
CBMR’s base area Adventure Park comes complete with 18 holes of miniature golf, bungee trampolines and a rock climbing tower. The bungee trampolines provide a turbo-charged, gravity-defying ride up to 30 feet in the air, while the climbing pinnacle features a 28-foot, 6-route tower with auto-belay. The Flying Gopher Mini Golf Course is 18 holes of pure Gunnison Valley putting enjoyment with each hole representing a different location or activity from the surrounding area. The Adventure Park is open year-round. This summer, the resort, along with the Trailhead Children’s Museum, is adding a tree house playground, which will be free for guests to use and is located in the base area near the Adventure Park.  The custom playhouse is designed and built by Daniels Wood Land, Inc. It is made from a real, old fallen tree that is hollowed out by a chainsaw. The tree house is a unique creation that’s been thoughtfully designed by the Trailhead to reflect Crested Butte’s mountain heritage. Learn More About the Adventure Park »

The Trailhead Children’s Museum:
Just steps from the main base area quad is Crested Butte’s very own children’s museum. Appropriately named The Trailhead, this non-profit entity is chalk full of hands-on educational exhibits and play opportunities, drop-off programs in the arts and sciences, and family-friendly event opportunities.  Discover the Dig Pit, Dark Room, Magic Magnets, Wedgits, Pirate Ship, Astro Corner, Block Party, Trail Lab and more! Just recently, the Trailhead debuted their newest exhibit, Garden to Grocery, A Healthy Living Exhibit. Complete with a Gunnison Valley Ranch, Mountain Town Market, and Pizza Café, kids can use dramatic play to explore and learn about healthy eating habits, where their food comes from and how it is made.

In addition to spending quality time together playing as a family (or rotating babysitting duty between various parties in your ski or bike group), The Trailhead offers daily Art and Science Enrichment Classes and Camps for kids ages 0-12 yrs. The littlest Einsteins and Picassos can enjoy hands-on arts and science alongside their parents and caregivers in Preschool Picasso’s – where the exploratory introduction to art and science happens on their floor, not yours. Children ages 3-12, have a handful of parent-free options, including classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, engineering, chemistry … and the list goes on, at a reasonable price point too! Daily drop-ins vary in price from $12 - $40 depending on the class. Call 970-349-7160 for more information about the Trailhead, details on class times and offerings.
