Press ReleasesWINDING DOWN THE SEASON, WINDING UP THE EVENTS Crested Butte Mountain Resort celebrates the end of the season with the Annual Slush Huck, chainless biking downhill and pond skim competitions
MT. CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. – March 28 – Does it get any better than spring skiing and riding? The sun is shining, the snow is soft and guests are smiling… It does! Add in some spring events and crazy costumes and the slopes truly become the best place to be in the springtime. The winter season is winding down at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR), but the resort brings back Slush Huck to celebrate the final weeks of the winter season. This Saturday, March 31 there will be a chainless downhill bike race; a mass start race on bikes from the top of the Red Lady Express to the base area. The following Saturday, April 7, the annual Pond Skim competition takes place to close out the final weekend of skiing and riding at the resort. Winter Chainless Downhill Bike Event Grab your “townie”, winter mountain bike, studded tires or downhill bike and come test out CBMR’s first-ever Winter Chainless Downhill Bike race. On the afternoon of Saturday, March 31, 2012 daring bike riders can sign up at the Butte 66 deck in the base area from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Registration is free for all, but helmets and waivers are required. Racers will need a lift ticket to load the lift between 4:30 and 5 p.m. for a 5:15 p.m. le Mans start from the top of the Red Lady lift to the base area. The after party will be at Butte 66 with live music from Justin Howard from 3 – 6 p.m. Pond Skim The Annual Pond Skim contest is never one to miss at CBMR. Resort crews build a 50 foot pond in the snow at the base area to test skiers’ and snowboarders’ skills at crossing the water feature. Pond Skim registration begins at 2 p.m. and costs $10 per person. The pond skimming event takes place from 3 – 5 p.m. Awards and live music from Buntron Smith will be at Butte 66, following the event.
