Kid's Lessons

Camp CB is where learning and fun converge to create a memorable experience for you and your child.  Upon arrival in Crested Butte, pre-register your child at Camp CB in the Whetstone Building. For same day registration, please arrive to Camp CB at least 45 minutes early. If your child is renting equipment allow additional time for fitting. 

Camp CB is open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. And don't forget that kids six and under ski free all season at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

Kids Ski & Ride Lessons

Cubs  (3 years old)
Our Cubs program offers a very unique learning and skiing experience for your child. Each day includes approximately a 1 ½ to 2hrs of skiing, combined with an organized trip to the Trailhead Children’s Discovery Museum in the Mt. Crested Butte Village. We will incorporate a visit to the Children Museum during the day. The children will go to explore, create, play and learn. Your child must be potty trained to participate in the ski program.

Explorers  (4 - 6 years old)
Our Explorers program is for skiers of all ability levels ages 4 - 6. Our exciting program offers group lessons that allow your child to explore the mountain according to individual ability and comfort level. Program includes indoor and outdoor ski exercises.  


Challengers  (7 - 14 years old)
Our Challenger program is for skiers of all ability levels ages 7 - 14. Your child will learn the basics of skiing, progressing at his or her own speed. For level 1 graduates and experienced skiers, our levels 2 - 7 group lessons will expand your child's skiing skills by offering several different levels and challenges.


Mini Riders (5 & 6 year olds) 
For the adventurous young riders, our all –inclusive program uses the latest technique in teaching snowboarding in a fun environment. With the focus centered around small groups with a ratio of 2:1 students to instructors. This lesson sets this age group up for success while shredding the mountain.


Challenger Riders (7 - 14 years old)
Our Challenger Rider program is designed to teach kids age 7 - 14 how to snowboard.  The lessons will progress according to ability and comfort level.  Includes indoor and outdoor exercises.  Crested Butte Mountain Resort is pleased to partner with Burton to offer Learn To Ride (LTR) snowboard equipment, the latest in snowboarding equipment making learning to ride easier and more fun.  Snowboard rental reservations are strongly recommended before signing up for a lesson. Teens Program - Ski & Ride (15 - 17 years old)
Available during Peak Season
The teen program creates an exciting environment in which to explore the mountain while at the same time receiving technical and tactical coaching to improve personal abilities. Advanced lessons specific to park & pipe or double diamond extreme terrain can be requested.  Teens Program is available during peak seasons: 12/22/12 - 01/04/13; 02/16/13 - 02/22/13; 03/09/13 - 03/22/13

Registration

Registration for all day lessons is between 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Lessons take place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. 

The first 15 minutes will be spent evaluating individuals ability level and introducing instructors and other participants.  Late arrivals may not be able to be accommodated.

Nursery
Baby Bears (2 months to 15 months)
Our baby bear program is staffed with qualified and caring individuals. We offer a two to one infant to attendant ratio.

Cuddly Bears (16 months to 3 years) 
Our Cuddly Bear program is for non-skiing children. Each day includes organized activities, arts &crafts, games, snow play (weather permitting), and quiet time.

Snowy Bears (2 years to 3 years)
Our snowy bears are toddlers aged 2.5 to 3 years who want to add an on-snow experience in a one-hour private lesson. Ski equipment is included during lesson time only. Each parent needs to provide the proper clothing for the child to ski such as a hat, goggles and mittens.

Tips for Parents 

Helmets
Helmets are recommended for children twelve years and under. Helmets are available for rent at Camp CB, and helmets are available for sale at ski and snowboard shops throughout the resort.

Rental Equipment
Equipment reservations are strongly recommended before signing up for a lesson during Christmas and Spring Break.

Registration
Please allow at least 45 minutes for registration. During Christmas and Spring Break, our sales desk and rental shop will be open extended evening hours. Sign up the night before to avoid the morning rush.

What to Bring
Please bring kids with warm clothes, waterproof mittens, goggles or sunglasses, a warm hat, and sunscreen with SPF of 15 or more.

Clothing
Mark clothing with your child's name. Masking tape and markers are available for your convenience.

Potty-training
Children must be potty trained to participate in outdoor skiing instruction, with the exception of the Snowy Bears program.
