Get Packing

Can't decide what to bring with you to Crested Butte? No problem. We've compiled some packing tips to help get you on your way with all the right stuff.

Skiing & Snowboarding
Layers, layers, layers. Start with a thin base layer made of a synthetic material. This layer goes next to your skin and wicks moisture away so you stay dry. Then vary your insulation layer depending on the daily temps. Finish off with an outer layer that provides protection from the wind, as well as some waterproofing.
  • Long underwear or other synthetic base layer
  • Fleece shirt, jacket or sweater(s)
  • Ski pants / bibs
  • Outer shell or jacket
  • Hat / helmet (A helmet will keep your head even warmer than a hat)
  • Warm gloves or mittens / liners
  • Wool socks (thin)
  • Neck warmer
  • Goggles or sunglasses
  • Lip balm and sunscreen
  • Boots, skis / board, poles (available for rent from CBMR Equipment Rentals)
Off-mountain
While temperature varies greatly during the day, plan on chilly temps when the sun goes down. A t-shirt or two is nice to have on those warm and sunny days. But for the evening, make sure you bring some sweaters, sweatshirts, and a warm jacket. Roads and walkways can get slick, so we suggest leaving the Stilettos at home and bringing shoes or boots that give you some traction. Crested Butte is a laid-back, casual place. Jeans and casual slacks will suffice at most of the local restaurants and pubs. Hats and gloves or mittens are a must when venturing out at night. But don't forget to pack a bathing suit for enjoying a nice soak in the hot tub after a day on the slopes.
  • Typical toiletries you bring on any vacation
  • Extra lotion for the dry Colorado climate
  • Medicine (particularly prescriptions)
  • Warm lounging clothing
  • Casual clothing
  • Swim suit
  • Warm pair of winter boots/shoes
  • Extra socks
  • Extra pair of gloves / mitts and a hat
  • Miscellaneous
  • Camera or camcorder
  • Lodging information/confirmation
  • Wallet, purse, etc. (cash, checks, cards)
  • Backpack / fanny pack (helpful on long ski days)

If you do forget to pack something, don't sweat it. You can pick up clothing, accessories, and toiletries and local retailers, including Base Area Basics and the General Store.
