Hot Club Sandwich
Gypsy jazz with everything on it, including humor. As the band’s name suggests, this isn’t just a recitation of the gospel according to Django. Rather, the group starts with classic jazz, and layers on a healthy spread of originals from several of the band’s members. Adding original compositions, light hearted vocal numbers, creative arrangements and elements of Latin American string band music, HCS creates its own voice. The addition of Northwest legend Ray Wood makes HCS one of the hottest acoustic bands on the West Coast.
Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan
Swing Gitan, featuring band leader Alfonso Ponticelli on lead guitar, plays the 1930s-style music of guitarist Django Reinhardt – foot tappin’ swing played on accoustic instruments. It’s a blend of the jubilant swing of early jazz with the feisty passion of gypsy music, plus a strong dose of guitar pyrotechnics and virtuosic improvisation.
Simon Planting
In 1976, Simon Planting started taking classical training on double bass from some of the world’s most well know players including Hans van Meegen from the Noord-Hollands Philharmonisch Orkest in Haarlem, Netherlands and Hans Krul of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. Throughout his musical career Simon has played with the world’s most talented jazz players including the well-known Fapy Lafertin, a Dutch Roma Gypsy guitar player and gifted Django Reinhardt interpreter, Reinier Voet, lead guitarist Pigalle 44, Robin Nolan, Jimmy Rosenberg, Kruno and many others.
