Stuff to Know

Employment Eligibility Verification
Whether you're looking at options, considering a job offer, or have accepted a position with CBMR, it is important to remember that proof of eligibility to work in the United States is required.  We require that all employees have the necessary identification on or before their first day of work.  Required identification usually consists of:

  • A U.S. Passport
  • Driver's License / State ID AND Social Security Card or Birth Certificate

Other types of IDs are also acceptable.  We are required by federal and state law to view the original documents.  Copies or faxes are not acceptable.  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START WORK WITHOUT THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS.

Grooming & Dress Guidelines

All employees are expected to be groomed and dressed in and neat and clean manner appropriate to their job.  The following are some general guidelines; certain departments may have additional policies, or more restrictive policies than stated below.  Make sure you check with your supervisor to see if your department has any additional policies.
  • Piercings should be limited to two per ear, and limited in size.
  • Small nose studs may be acceptable in some departments, but no other piercings should be visible.
  • Tattoos should not be visible to our guests.
  • Fad or extreme hairstyles are not acceptable, including but not limited to: mohawks, dreadlocks and unnaturally dyed hair.

The best fit...
CBMR has many functions - we operate the ski mountain with lifts, ski patrol, ski school, snowmaking, grooming and other on-mountain departments.  We run restaurants - both on-mountain and in our hotels and lodging properties, fine dining, casual dining, cafeteria style and specialty banquets.  Additionally, we operate three full-service hotels and a property management business.  Then we have all of the behind-the-scenes functions of administration, accounting, vehicle maintenance, lift maintenance, property maintenance and housekeeping, to name a few.  With all these different departments, jobs available differ widely.  When applying for jobs, consider some of the following so that we end up with the best fit for both you and CBMR:

  • Do you enjoy being outside or inside?
  • Do you enjoy interacting with people, or prefer to work alone?
  • Do you want to work days?  Nights?  Swing shift?  Full-time or part-time?
  • Do you have specific skills or talents you hope to use?

Holidays
As a destination resort, CBMR tends to be busiest when our guests have time off from work and school - Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, President’s Week, and Spring Break.  Since we work as a team, employees are expected to be available to work during all holiday periods.  Just think about what a great time it is for your friends and family to come out and visit you in Colorado!

Interviewing Tips
A few tips to help make your interview go smoothly...

Look Sharp: There's only one chance to make a first impression! Even though CBMR provides a casual environment, we recommend our applicants look presentable. Attire that can be deemed "business casual" is encouraged. Jeans are okay, but be sure they are clean and in good condition. Our grooming policy has company basics, but each department is free to establish unique guidelines so be sure to check on specific grooming standards.  Also, you may be interviewing the same day you visit to complete an application so be prepared and dress accordingly.

Be on Time:
Never arrive late to an interview. Allow extra time to arrive early in the vicinity, allowing for traffic conditions, weather conditions or getting lost.

Do Your Research:
Research the company and the job you are interviewing for thoroughly.
  • Be sure you can fulfill the time commitment for the job
  • Be sure you meet all qualifications mentioned in the job description and requirements.
  • Spend time on www.skicb.com and other websites related to working with CBMR
Be Prepared: The application will need you to provide names, phone numbers, and addresses for past employers, supervisors, and personal references.  The interview process cannot begin until an application has been filled out completely. Research which positions you are interested in and why.  Be prepared with second and third choices in case a position is filled. Bring questions to an interview.  It shows interest and can provide you with much needed information that you can't get anywhere else.

Show Enthusiasm: CBMR seeks to hire people who are excited to come to work everyday.  Even though you may feel nervous, remain calm and show confidence through a firm handshake, consistent eye contact, and by speaking distinctly.

Listen: One of the most neglected interviewing skills is listening.  Make sure that you are not only listening, but also preparing to respond to what you have heard.

Answer the Question Asked: Candidates often don't think about whether or not they are actually answering the questions asked by their interviewers. Make sure you understand what is being asked, and feel comfortable asking for further clarification if you are unsure.

Give Specific Examples:
One specific example of your background is worth 50 vague stories. Prepare specific examples of your work history before the interview. Give examples that highlight your successes and uniqueness. Past behavior is the best indication of future performance.

Ask Questions: Many interviewees don't ask questions and miss the opportunity to uncover valuable information. Your questions indicate your interest in the company or job.
