Mountain Sports Team

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is pleased to offer its fifth season of comprehensive mountain sports programs that are accessible to a wide variety of athletes, from kids learning to ski and ride to driven student athletes.  CBMST offers various levels of participation beginning with weekend development programs to full-time, competitive based programming.

CBMST Development Programs focus on bringing kids exhibiting strong fundamentals by taking their personal skills to a higher level in alpine racing, snowboarding, free-ride, and tele-mark skiing. The Development Programs will introduce athletes to tactical and technical approaches while taking advantage of all the terrain the mountain has to offer.

The primary goal for all of our athletes is to set them up for success. With this in mind, we have created a developmental pipeline for our participants. This approach aids in creating an environment that allows coaches to focus on athletes’ developmental and skill level in a similar age range. They move through a system that teaches fundamental skills in technical skiing and progresses them towards tactical skills within their specific discipline.

The following is an outline of the development pipeline for athletes and the disciplines offered for each team:

Junior Development Team “Jr. Devo’s”: Ages 7-10

The junior development team is designed to introduce kids to the mountain sports team. Many participants graduate to this program through the local Cruisers program offered at the Ski and Ride School. Cruisers is offered for kids ages 4-14, however the “Jr. Devo” Team is designed to increase the commitment of young athletes. Participation introduces these kids to the concepts of tactics and technical skiing in the discipline they are interested in. This allows the athletes to begin narrowing their focus on the hill in Alpine and Snowboarding.

The following programs are offered for Alpine and Snowboarding.
1 Day Program – $695

16 Weeks, offered on Saturdays 9:30am – 3:00pm
Dates of Program: Dec. 1, 8, 15, Jan. 5, 12, 19, 26, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30

Development Team “Devo’s”: Ages 11-13 (Based On Dec. 31st age)

The Development Team is designed to continue to allow our athletes to grow in their specific discipline, with the commitment to local and regional competitions growing at this age level. The “Devo” program provides more time on the hill with a 1 ½ and 3 day program offering. Dryland training will be required throughout the season as directed by the coaches.

The following programs are offered to all disciplines: Alpine, Snowboarding, and Telemarking.

Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Competitive Team Program is designed to support athletes in their specific discipline throughout the winter, with individual coaching for athletes during the winter competitive schedule. Coaches and athletes will work together through tactical drills to focus their personal abilities as well as outline their competitive schedule in order to balance training around the success of their competitive season. Dryland training will be required throughout the season as directed by the coaches.

Mountain Sports Team Camps

Camps are offered throughout the season as an opportunity for athletes to obtain more coaching time and more on-hill time to allow growth in their specific discipline. These camps are available for athletes who take part in the season long athletic programs.

MST Early Season Conditioning Program – Dates to be determined
Price: The Conditioning Program is offered complimentary to all Athletes participating on the Mountain Sports Team. The Mountain Sports Team is offering Pre-Season conditioning programs to all athletes who are interested in preparing for the winter season.

Holiday Camps –
Session 1 –  Available for all age levels and Teams
Session 2 –  Available for all age levels and Teams
Price: $200

These two 4-day camps were created to work around the local school schedule and provide more time for the athletes on snow. Each four day session will follow a curriculum that builds off of individual’s athlete’s winter long program. This allows continued coaching from the same coaching staff on the mountain sports team.

Mid-Winter Camps – Dates TBD
Price: $150

Available to all athletes. This 3-Day Camp works around the CB Community School’s February break, with the focus on training towards and around the competitive season. Time will be spent reviewing past results and experiences at competitions, and working on curriculum for previous and future experiences in the competitive arena. For the Jr. Devo Team, the curriculum will continue to be based and built off of the progressions they are working in their 16-week program.

Prater Cup Prep Camp – Dates TBD
Price: $200

Like the previous few seasons this camp will consist of fundamental skill refreshing with a focus on speed skills.  It will be lower volume and with a ramping up of intensity throughout the 3 day block of training.

Athletes will be reintroduced to their skill base and will gain further experience in speed skills, including glide turns, aerodynamics and terrain work.  The focus for this camp will be free skiing with simple GS and SG gate training progressions, and fun.  We want the athletes ready and rested as they move into a big weekend of racing.
