This Week In The Butte September 25 2018

Fall colors are popping and there is a cool crisp in the air – it is definitely the end of summer – and Crested Butte is saying good bye summer and hello fall with several awesome events!

TGR Presents Far Out I September 26
Get ready Crested Butte - on Wednesday, September 26, TGR is heading back to town to help kick-off winter with the one night only premiere of our new ski and snowboard film, Far Out, presented by REI. It all takes place outdoors at the Red Lady base area. There will be drinks available for purchase, a DJ before the film and Far Out under the stars. Bring your low back camping chairs and blankets.

This event is FREE to the public - our way of saying thanks to the community for letting us film there this past year, and in appreciation of Gunnison-Crested Butte and Crested Butte Mountain Resort and their years of support.
There will be a ton of prize giveaways from our partners at YETI, ATOMIC SKIING, VÖLKL, The North Face, Outdoor Research and more.

Emma Coburn’s Elk Run 5K I September 29
The Elk Run 5k is a premier event founded by Olympian Emma Coburn with the intention to attract runners of all abilities throughout the state and to encourage health and fitness. The race supports Living Journeys a cancer support organization in the Gunnison Valley.

Emma Coburn is an American middle distance runner who specializes in the 3000 meter steeplechase. She set an American Record of 9:07.63 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to win a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games. In doing so, she became the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the event.  Emma is a 5x US Champion and was a multiple time NCAA champion while at the University of Colorado. Born in Boulder, CO and raised in Crested Butte, Emma hopes to give back to the small town that his given her so much.

Emma hopes to use this race as a way to continue to inspire others to go after their dreams as well as encourage physical fitness and health. Emma hopes to show others the beauty of Crested Butte and bring runners to her favorite training trails, so they too can enjoy what the Gunnison Valley has given her.
