March is Full of Unique Events in Crested Butte

Each year, Crested Butte hosts a full calendar of great events – such as the Fat Bike World Championships, the annual Alley Loop Nordic Race, Wildflower Festival, concerts and more – but March must top the list for unique events. Foodies, musicians, athletes and characters can each find an event that they’ll enjoy during the month of March.

The Adrenaline Junkies:

Each March in Crested Butte, skiers and snowboarders tackle the high-speed USASA boardercross and skiercross races (March 1-3, 2019); plus, some of the nation’s top up-and-coming winter athletes challenge themselves on Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s (CBMR) famous Extreme Limits terrain during the IFSA Junior Nationals Freeride Competition (March 8-10, 2019).

Foodies with a Palate for Local Flavors:

While not everyone is ready to register for one of the events mentioned above, most of us do enjoy delicious food. On March 2, 2019, Crested Butte’s popular Crafted Tasting Event returns to the CBMR base area featuring Colorado’s best craft brews, spirits and local fare.

The Multigenerational Family:

For an elevated epicurean adventure, families must check out CBMR’s popular Sunset Soirees at Ten Peaks. During the Sunset Soirees, guests are treated to a snowcat-drawn sleigh ride to an evening of delicious food at one of the resort’s on-mountain restaurants. Sunset Soirees will take place on March 12 and 19, 2019.

Musicians of All Ages and Sizes

Throughout the year, CBMR welcomes many great artists to the stage during the CB Unplugged concert series. Join friends and family at Butte 66 on March 16, 2019, for the series’ final concert of the winter season featuring Tenth Mountain Division. This free après concert begins at 4 p.m.

Women Who Rip [or Want to Rip]

Sorry fellas, but this one’s only for the ladies. In 2019, CBMR is bringing back the Elan Women’s Weekend! This special women’s-only weekend ski experience includes demos of the award-winning Elan Ripstick Freeride skis, designed to explore big mountain terrain such as Crested Butte’s famed Extreme Limits. Registration includes one and a half days of guided skiing by a CBMR Ski and Ride School instructor as well as two lunches on the mountain including Uley's Cabin, two après events, drink tickets and a gift bag. The Elan Women’s Weekend event takes place March 22-24, 2019.

Costume and Color Lovers:

In ode to a rugged 19th century mailman, the annual Al Johnson Uphill/Downhill Telemark Race returns to CBMR for its 45th season. The race – affectionately known as the “AJ” – requires skiers to ascend 660 vertical feet before plummeting down the resort’s famous Extreme Limits terrain to the finish line 1,200 feet below. Prizes are awarded for the fastest times, best costumes and best fall, making the AJ one of the most fun events of the entire winter calendar. The AJ takes place on March 24, 2019.

As you can see, March packs a punch of diverse events for every member of your family, and the list above only scratches the surface.
