Early Season Snow in Crested Butte

Early Season Snow in Crested Butte

Snow in the high country is a sign that even though the first official day of fall was just last week, winter is on its way. In the meantime, be sure to soak in the misty mornings, stark contrasting personality and beauty of fall in the mountains. We will miss the vibrant oranges, reds and yellows of freshly fallen aspen leaves but we look forward to the squeak of new snow under our feet.

Check out the gallery below of early season snow in Crested Butte!

Best Fall Colors by Bike

Every year around the middle of September, the incredible blue, pink, white and yellow hues of wildflowers give way to the gold of the aspen leaves.  While to many, fall represents the end of summer and generates excitement for the upcoming winter season, others continue to revel in summer activities, albeit with cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and amazing foliage.

Below are a few of our favorite mountain bike trails to experience the awe-inspiring fall foliage in and around Crested Butte.

Crested Butte 5 Fun Things to Do This Winter in Crested Butte

5 Fun Things to Do This Winter in Crested Butte

We’re getting close to winter. Close enough, in fact, that there’s been frost on windshields and temps hitting below freezing in the early morning hours. The aspen leaves are starting to fade into yellow and orange. The fields of grass and shrubs are starting to turn a baked gold.

The chill is in the air and as we transition to colder months, the hubbub around town turns to the inevitable: winter. What new gear is everyone getting? How many inches of snow will we get? The prayers to Ullr and snow dances begin and they won’t stop until April.

In case you need some things to...

Crested Butte Featured Hike #15: Gothic Mountain

Featured Hike #15: Gothic Mountain

Hiking in the Gunnison Valley this fall has been nothing short of amazing, and we were itching to summit one more peak before the beautiful leaves were gone.  One afternoon while sitting on a bench outside the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, we looked up at Gothic Mountain and said “let’s hike Gothic!”  Several days later, with our backpacks and hiking gear on, we made our way to the trailhead to begin the trek up the majestic Gothic Mountain.

You can begin the hike up Gothic Mountain a few different ways, either from the Washington Gulch, or from the Gothic side; we...

Crested Butte Featured Hike #14: East Maroon Trail

Featured Hike #14: East Maroon Trail

With the leaves changing colors and the temperature dropping, we decided to embark on a beautiful hike from Crested Butte to Aspen on the East Maroon Trail.  The hike, although not extremely difficult is much longer than the West Maroon Trail, so make sure you bring plenty of water and snacks. We were very fortunate to have caught superb weather as we made our way over to Aspen.

With our music blaring and our stoke level on high, we drove out to the Judd Falls trailhead, where we parked our car, put on our backpacks, and began our adventure.  To access the East Maroon Trail, begin...
