The 46th Annual Crested Butte Arts Festival is August 3 – 5, 2018.

In anticipation for one of our favorite summer events, here are 5 tips for an amazing festival experience:

Get ready

With a little planning, you can enrich your experience before stepping foot into the festival.

Look around your home – is there a corner you would like to enliven with a new painting or sculpture? Is there a certain amount of money you have budgeted? Take a moment and pause when an art piece catches your eye. This all helps when perusing the booths and making a...

Crested Butte is Now Epic

To Our Community:

As many of you have recently learned, our family has made the decision to sell Crested Butte Mountain Resort to Vail Resorts. While we realize this may come as a surprise to some, we want you all to know this was a very hard decision.  We started in the resort business in 1972, and then got started in the ski resort business at Okemo in 1982.  Growing up in the ski industry created a foundation for our entire lives and developed much of what we are passionate about today.

For the last 14 years in Crested Butte, we have developed many friendships with people...

Crested Butte Five Reasons to Wake Up for a CB Sunrise

Five Reasons to Wake Up for a CB Sunrise

Here are a few reasons, why you really should wake up for Crested Butte sunrises!

1. Nobody Else is Awake

The towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte plus the hills surrounding our communities are very sleepy, especially at sunrise. Being one of the only people around to witness the beauty of a Crested Butte sunrise will make you feel so special. Often times, the spectacular colors of the sunrise will only last five minutes, which will make you feel even luckier to have seen those reds, pinks and oranges that are unique to the early morning.

Crested Butte Spitfire, Camaraderie and Beer: Crested Butte Bike Week

Spitfire, Camaraderie and Beer: Crested Butte Bike Week

It was a little bit of beer, a good pair of boots and a lot of nerve that fueled it, and the boots helped with stopping (along with a river for cooling down hot coaster brakes).

Because when a vintage Schwinn Spitfire townie is hauling down a rocky mountain side, with only coaster brakes to stop, slowing down is not easy.

The same can probably be said for the tradition of Crested Butte Bike Week—the oldest mountain bike festival in the United States, now in its 36th year.  The Schwinn Spitfire was the bike of choice back in those Wild West days during the original Pearl Pass...

Crested Butte What is Summer in Crested Butte?

What is Summer in Crested Butte?

Summer arrives slowly in the mountains.  The plants and flowers ease into the season, knowing full well it could be the beginning of June before their safe from another frost or snow storm.

At lower elevations, summer seems to spring to life in late April or early May, the trees begin to flower, and you’ll catch folks in flip flops and tank tops long before the snow really starts to melt in Crested Butte.  Spring time is coined as ‘seasonal confusion’ at higher elevations.

But seeing as though we are in the first week of June, and the temperatures have been hovering in the...
