3 Reasons to Never Miss the Elk Run 5K
Emma Coburn is a local Olympian and World Champion, mountain ambassador and champion of change. She founded the Elk Run 5K race “as a way to continue to inspire others to go after their dreams as well as encourage physical fitness and health. Emma hopes to show others the beauty of Crested Butte and bring runners to her favorite training trails, so they too can enjoy what the Gunnison Valley has given her.”
Registration for the Elk Run 5K fills up each year. Here are three of our top reasons to prioritize this event on your 2019 summer calendar:
1. The Setting
The 5K race starts and ends on Crested Butte’s colorful and historic Elk Avenue with awesome views of Mt. Crested Butte. The course winds out to Peanut Lake featuring the stunning beauty of the Paradise Divide. This course packs a gorgeous visual punch for both runners and spectators alike!
2. The Energy
The excitement and energy of the event is palpable. From the fleet of elite runners vying for a first place finish and the $3000 winner’s payout, to Emma greeting every runner across the finish line with a smile and a high five to the crazy fun after party serving up mimosas and ‘80s rock, the entire day if filled with inspiration, fun and community.
3. The Purpose
The race raises $30,000 for the local non-profit Living Journeys that provides support, education and awareness to people living with cancer and their loved ones. This broader mission gives every runner a sense of purpose and passion that exudes the true Crested Butte spirt of resilience and spirit.
So, mark your calendars for the last Saturday of September 2019 and join in on this wonderful run.
